As we have previously reported Australia is to get the Sahara (US) specification Wrangler and we can confirm it will be called Wrangler Overland in Australia. (Toyota already use the Sahara name in Australia) It will be available in Australian dealers very soon and will be in both 2 door and 4 door versions.
The Wrangler Overland will only be available in 3.6L Pentastar V6 Petrol Automatic driveline (No Diesel and no manual) and will be fitted out with colour coded roof and flairs, leather trim with heated front seats, unique styled alloy wheels and GPS Navigation U-connect audio.
Dealers already have all the information and prices and will be similarly priced to the rarely seen Rubicon model.

Rubicon 10th Anniversary Edition For US Market.
But will we see it here in Australia?
To celebrate the 10th year of producing the Wrangler Rubicon Jeep in the USA have announced they will build a 10th anniversary Edition of this iconic vehicle.
But the big question is will we see it come to Australia?
We doubt that it will make it here when you consider the existing long delays in production of Rubicon for Australia there would be some mighty angry purchasers who are still waiting for Rubicon's that were ordered early this year (2012).. We have heard of some buyers who are still waiting for vehicles that were ordered as far back as February 2012 and are not going to see there new Jeep arrive until 2013. So if Jeep made a batch of 10th anniversary models for Australia there would be some pretty pissed off Jeepers here.
Fiat Chrysler Australia still can not explain why we don't get enough production of Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. If you check out some of the American Jeep forums there is no mention of shortages or delays in delivery times for them which means there is another reason we don't get many.
So if you are keen for a Rubicon expect a long wait for your car to arrive.

has eaten something he is allergic to.
Funds raised will be donated to Allergy and Anaphylaxis Australia
http://www.facebook.com/AnaphylaxisAustralia?fref=ts
The cruise will commence at 9am sharp from Double Black Offroad in Moorabbin. Breakfast will be served from 7.30am which will consist of a sausage sizzle and crepes and coffee thanks to Buzzbox and Le Crepe Downunder.

Jeep Recall Effects 919,545 Jeeps World Wide!
Chrysler is recalling 919,545 WG Jeep Grand Cherokee and KJ Liberty / Cherokee SUVs from model years 2002 through 2004 because a part in airbag control modules may fail, according to documents filed with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Chrysler.
A failure of that module could cause the front airbags or side curtain airbags to deploy inadvertently while the SUVs are being operated, increasing the risk of injury or accident, according to NHTSA documents
Chrysler's dealers will install a supplemental jumper harness to the airbag control module at no cost to owners. The recall is expected to begin in January.
The recall does effect vehicles sold in Australia and Chrysler will advise owners of the recall when parts become available.

RIP JK8 - WRANGLER PICKUP OFF THE AGENDA
THE LONG ANTICIPATED WRANGLER PICK UP (JK8) IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.
Jeep enthusiasts world wide have long been dreaming about a Wrangler Pickup Utility being produced by Jeep. However it looks seriously un-likley after comments made by Fiat Chrysler Australia CEO Clyde Campbell at the recent Grand Cherokee SRT8 Australian Media lunch that it would need to be a real 1 tonne capacity load carrying truck to make sense in this competitive market segment.
“I think the clear decision is that if you are going to have a pick-up it has got to be a metric-tonne pick-up,” Mr Campbell explained. “It’s got to be a beast that ticks a few boxes.”
Jeep does currently offer a ‘JK-8’ utility conversion kit for the current four-door Wrangler, but it is an oddly shaped load space limited to about 800kg, Mr Campbell explained.
“You couldn’t fit a motorcycle in there, for instance,” he said. “It’s a funny sort of configuration. But it looks fantastic.”
If and when a 1 tonne pickup is built it will most likely be a Dodge branded ute and be designed to take on the market leader Toyota Hilux etc. This leaves the aftermarket builders alone to do there own thing or local Australians can wait for the Mopar Pickup conversion to be approved for Australia.

SRT8 GRAND CHEROKEE (UPDATED) DELAYS FOR AUSTRALIA
The SRT8 Grand Cherokee has been officially launched in Australia this week although dealers are only receiving a handful of pre-sold vehicles. Pricing has long last been released and its a big surprise coming in lower than expected at $76000 plus on road costs and options. Option Packs are the Panoramic Sunroof with the SRT8 High Performance Audio 19 speaker Harmon Cardon system $3900 or Roof DVD Entertainment group packaged with normal sized sunroof. The SRT8 High peformance audio can be ordered seperate for $1200.
The eagerly awaited Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 has been delayed as demand in the USA takes all the production that was set for Oz and Australian buyers take a back seat again. Local forward orders have exceeded expected supply of customer specific orders but Fiat Chrysler Australia have managed to get production of a limited run of the "Alpine" Special edition SRT8. These will be amongst the first SRT8's to arrive in Australia and smart buyers will change their order to one of these collectable Jeeps.
Only available in White there will only be a handfull of these coming. Jeep are yet to confirm pricing for this option. If you want a SRT8 expect a lengthy delivery time..

WRANGLER SAHARA DUE IN AUSTRALIA 2013
The Jeep Wrangler Sahara will finally make it's way to the Australian market in early 2013. It will be a top spec luxury model with leather, painted roof and flairs and plenty of other cool stuff.
The luxury Wrangler may not be called a Sahara because Toyota already owns that name. We have heard it could be called a Wrangler Limited, a bit confusing if that is the case Wrangler Unlimited Limited sounds wierd.
More details soon.....

Jeep Trail Hawk Grand Cherokee Is Tipped For Australia
The recently announced in the US Grand Cherokee Trail Hawk is set to come to Australia soon. Expect it to look just like the Moab prototype and be equipped with the Turbo Diesel engine and kitted out with all the 4x4 options such as Quadralift, Off Road Adventure group and GPS. Most likely to be seen in the new year as a 2013 model the hard core off road equipped Grand Cherokee will follow in the footsteps of the recent and successful Jet edition Laredo models that have mostly sold out.
More information to come as we get more details from our sources.
Sharp eyed Jeep enthusiasts will note that the Trail Hawk is fitted with bright red recovery hooks and we are told that the Australian versions will be equipped with these. Makes you wonder why Jeep Australia had all the 2012 Grand Cherokee's arrive here with out the hooks that were fitted to the 2011 model. The quoted reason at the time was to meet "European pedestrian safety regulations" but some how this version will be fitted with the same 2011 hooks we were told were not compliant. Makes you wonder if some one at Jeep Australia just stuffed up when they ordered the 2012's doesn't it?

JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WK2 HAVING ISSUES ON SAND?
There are numerous reports in 4WD media and Jeep forums that some Grand Cherokee owners are experiencing a failure of the 4WD system when driving in sand. The vehicles computer comes up with a SERV 4WD error and the car only sends power to the rear wheels rendering the car useless stuck on a beach or on a sand dune. The issue is being experienced both in the USA and Australia and is only effecting random vehicles. Owners are being frustrated by a lack of feedback and communication from Jeep Australia.

WRANGLER 2012 AEV/ MOPAR SNORKEL WILL FIT 3.6L
2012 JK Wrangler owners with the 3.6L Pentastar engine who wish to fit a snorkel have been under the misconception that the AEV/Mopar Snorkel will not fit the 2012 Wrangler.
This is incorrect. The current 3.8L AEV snorkel will fit with some minor adjustments to the air cleaner intake. AEV do have an upgraded 3.6L Snorkel in the pipeline (due late September) which has a slightly better airflow so be warned if you are fitting the 3.8L Snorkel it will have some restrictive effect on performance.
The AEV snorkel is sold in Australia as a genuine Mopar accessory and local Jeep dealers have been successfully installing them to the 3.6L Pentastar engine.

Jeep To Import Pentastar 3.6L Overland
Jeep Australia are to import a new addition to the highly successful Grand Cherokee Range. A new petrol V6 Pentastar 3.6L powered Overland is to arrive soon to ease the demand for this top of the line model. Diesel versions are still subject to long delivery times and Jeep are hoping better supply of the petrol V6 Overland will attract buyers who don't really need the diesel.
The Overland is popular because the price is so close to an optioned up Limited it makes more sense to pay the extra few grand to get all the additional goodies.

The Next Jeep Wrangler
Australian Journos were taken over to the USA recently for a Colorado drive program with the current Wrangler and Grand Cherokee. Whilst there the Jeep executives were talking future Jeeps and the Wrangler was top of that list with strong indications of an all new Wrangler due for 2015 model year..
Expect the next Wrangler to be more pedestrian safe with restyled front end and a softer impact zone - does not sound 4WD friendly though with most likely no heavy duty bumpers for mounting winches and the usual off road gear.
New styling and body configurations are also in the pipeline with possible pickup and full steel wagon versions being touted along with petrol and diesel engine upgrades and more modern interiors and overhaul of crash safety compliance are expected to be part of major upgrades to the range.
It's very early days yet so watch out for snippets over the next year.

JEEP AUSTRALIA SLASH CHEROKEE KK PRICING
Jeep Australia have slashed the price of its lack luster Cherokee range in the face of slow sales. The Jeep range has been going great guns this year except for the soon to be replaced KK Cherokee (Liberty in US).
The aging Cherokee has been advertised from $35000K all year for its Sport 2x4 version with many dealers offering them for $32000K Drive Away. Now Jeep have just slashed the price to $30000K Drive Away and the rest of the range has also been dropped. New prices are Limited 2x4 for $33000, Limited 4x4 $35000 and the diesel CRD Limited for just $39000 thats a massive $7000 reduction on the Limited petrol and diesel.
A real bargain for new buyers but too bad if you bought one last month.
This is a very bad look for Jeep and recent buyers will be fuming at being duped out of thousands of dollars and also the drop in resale value of their purchase. Owners of older models will also be unhappy at the drop in resale value of their older Jeep.
It's hard to work out why Jeep Australia have panicked as the replacement for the KK is not due until sometime next year. The new prices are on the Jeep Australia website at www.jeep.com.au

2014 Grand Cherokee To Come Early
Media reports are indicating that the upcoming 2013 Model Year Grand Cherokee which goes into production in August and should arrive here late in the year, will be a short production run due to Jeep wanting to get the 2014 upgrades out sooner. The 2013 model has minimal changes and will be replaced with a more refreshed 2014 model early in 2013. That sounds weird but thats how they do things in America.
"The biggest change for 2014 will be the availability of a 3.0-liter diesel V6 for US markets, which we already have in Australia. Additionally, Automotive News reports that a ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic is on deck for 2014. Details are scarce right now, but this transmission will likely be paired with the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, just like in the 2013 Ram 1500 and the current Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger.
The 2014 Grand Cherokee is slated to debut in January, likely at the Detroit Auto Show, with sales to start shortly thereafter"
Sales of the Australian Grand Cherokee are still going strong with Diesel Laredo and Overland models still in strong demand. Some dealers have a few Diesel Limited models so hunt around for a deal on one of those if you dont want to wait 'till end of year. Even some of the 3.6L V6 Pentastar versions are sold out 'till end of year.

Victoria's Mount Terrible Hut Vandalised Again -
MT TERRIBLE HUT VANDALISED AGAIN.
The Victorian High Country Huts Association who do a fantastic job in repairing and maintaining the huts through out the Victorian high country have reported that the Mount Terrible Hut near Jamieson has again been damaged by irresponsible vandals.
The hut which was just recently repaired was vandalised again over the recent long weekend in June. The verandah posts were pulled out and collapsed the roof. The Association and the members of the Yarra Valley 4WD Club who worked on this hut are very disappointed.

End of KK Cherokee Nears!
The current Jeep KK Cherokee {Liberty in USA) is soon to cease production.
The last KK will be built in August and the Toledo, Ohio plant that makes the KK will shut down for major upgrades and re-tooling for the new model Jeep SUV that will replace it next year.
The new SUV (yet to be officially named) is rumoured to be named Cherokee rather than Liberty and is to be built on a new platform sourced from Fiat/Alfa Romeo. The new model will be built in both a two wheel drive and four wheel drive variant and will get a 3.2L version of the Pentastar V6 as well as 4 cylinder petrol and turbo diesel export versions. It is expected to be previewed at the North American Auto Show in Detroit in January and will go into production around March/April 2013. Australia wont see it until late 2013 at the earliest. The current Australian KK Cherokee Stocks will be run down and will run dry before the new car arrives.
The KK has a disappointing sales record in Australia and has lagged behind the market being an older design and loosing its traditional 4WD market due to lack of 4WD accessories, low ground clearance and small luggage space in the rear. The better performing and more economical CRD Diesel was badly effected by Jeeps decision to lower the tow rating from the KJ CRD's 2800 KG to just 2300 KG and has only been available in limited numbers. The old 3.7L Petrol V6 is also known as a fuel guzzler. Lets hope the new car will have better 4WD and towing ability and more room for all your camping gear in the rear.

WRANGLER FOR 2013 - SPECIFICATION UPDATE
Unconfirmed details of 2013 Wrangler specification changes are starting to appear in the US. Australian models differ from the US models and the only changes likely to effect Australian buyers are revised seat design for additional comfort and use of new materials, a new design premium soft top for 4 door models, colour and design changes to the alloy wheels and a new body paint palette.
It appears some familiar colors are going to disappear - Flame Red, Bright Silver, Black Forest Green and Cosmos Blue are expected to go. New colours for Australia could include True Blue, Commando Green pearl, Dune, Rock Lobster, Billet metallic and Rugged Brown some of which will be late availability.
Gecko, Dozer, Black, Bright White, Crush, and Deep Cherry Red Pearl will continue but expect some colours to be discontinued as some of the new ones become available.
We will detail any other changes that may be made to Australian Wranglers as word comes through.

4,500 Tasmanian 4WD'ers Hold Protest Rally Against Track Closures
Tasmanian Four Wheel Drivers have held a massive protest rally in Smithton on 20th May against the Tasmanian Government's closure of popular 4WD tracks in the Arthur Pieman area of the west coast. Over 4,500 people attended to protest against minority green groups who want to lock up areas used by recreational 4WDer's.
The protest and lack of a positive reaction from the Tasmanian Government has sparked outrage from 4WD'ers on the mainland and has prompted National 4WD magazine "Australian 4WD Action' to take up the cause.
If Australian 4 Wheel Drive owners sit back and do nothing the green groups will get their way and your popular tracks and 4 WD trails will be locked up forever. You all need to act NOW! Show your support to keep your recreation alive. Visit the Australian 4WD Action website and show your support. Dont leave our Tasmanian friends down! Your favourite tracks could be next!
Four Wheel Drive Australia - supposedly the national body for Four Wheel Drivers seems to be asleep at the wheel. No mention of the Tasmanian protest on their website, just the usual dribble about the Canning Stock Route etc. Other state organisations seem oblivious also, hence the cause being taken up by Australian 4WD Action Magazine.

GRAND CHEROKEE RECOVERY HOOKS HAVE STARTED TO ARRIVE (UPDATED)
2012 Grand Cherokee owners who have been frustrated by the lack of communication from Jeep Australia regarding the front recovery hooks can now contact their Jeep dealer as the hooks have started to arrive. We have been told by one frustrated owner that he can now make an appointment to have a hook fitted by his local dealer.
HERE IS THE HOOK
Its rated to 4,500kg
Its very heavy duty and is a tight curved hook that a Snatch strap can hook directly. It tucks in behind the plastic fascia.
(not a brilliant photo but its all we have so far)
Aparently they are recommending one hook mounted to the passenger side of the vehicle which will sit behind the fascia. No word yet on the Nudge bar but indications are it is not far away.

Jeep Wrangler Diesel And Rubicon Delays - PR Spin Or Fact!
Are Jeep Australia spinning a line to Aussie Wrangler buyers?
Read any of the Australian Jeep Forums or talk to anyone who has a Wrangler Rubicon or Diesel on order and you will find a long tale of frustration, all sorts of dealer excuses and some very ordinary examples of PR spin from Chrysler Jeep Australia executives trying to fend off enquiries from unhappy Jeep customers.
What is really going on here?
Some customers and dealers are being told about factory fires, shortages of transfer cases and axles, and other tales of woe that are causing delays in production. It seems it is not just Australian buyers effected either as some European countries are experiencing similar issues. But then you visit the Jeep UK website and find them promoting that you can make a "Special Order" and build the ultimate Jeep, Petrol or Diesel and even Rubicon.
............. Its all very strange because if you do a Google search looking for any reports of these excuses you will not find anything reported, nothing in the US, no reports of factory fires from VM Motori (they make the diesel engines), no reports of transfer case delays on US forums, nothing on any of the Chrysler Corporate websites or US based blogs. They are still producing a trickle of Diesel KK Cherokee and Grand Voyager models for Australia but even these have recently dried up.
So what is the truth?
Are we just being bypassed and is the US sending all export production to Europe?
Are they supplying the more lucrative US market at the expense of their very loyal and enthusiastic Australian buyers?
Are they reducing supply of less profitable diesel and specialist models like the Rubicon to concentrate on more profitable models?
There are some feasible conclusions that can be made based on information available on the internet such as issues with production capacity at the Toledo Jeep factory where the JK is built. It appears that when the factory was built they never expected to be selling so many Wranglers, and they are looking at ways to expand the plant but apparently it was never designed to be expanded. The factory is already at maximum production capacity. This explains why there has been a reluctance to build some of the other cool variants that have been seen over recent yreas such as the Wrangler Pickup (Gladiator concept), Steel top roof (Rescue concept) and our favourite Jeep they just wont build - the Diesel Rubicon. They simply don't have capacity to build these models.
Also US sales are so strong it appears that most of the JK Wranglers are being built for the US Market at the expense or export markets. Australia's production order must look minuscule compared to the number sold in the US. We have all been told over the years that Australia is the largest export market for Wrangler, but even that is a stretch now days with Wranglers now being sold in the Middle East, Europe and Asia etc.
All we can conclude at this point is that if you want a Rubicon or Diesel version of the Wrangler you will be up for a very, very long wait. The positive in all this is that if and when your new Jeep is built it could be a 2013 model if it gets built after July.

Jeep Compass 2012 Gets ANCAP 4 Star Rating
After only achieving a European NCAP Crash Rating of 2 Stars due to Euro pedestrian impact requirements the Australian analysis and testing criteria has given the new Compass a 4 Star ANCAP rating.
ANCAP was provided with technical information which showed that the 4x4 2.4 litre petrol variant can be expected to have comparable crashworthiness to the tested diesel variant.
The tested model of Jeep Compass was introduced in Australia during 2012. This rating applies to 4x4 variants with a 2.4 litre petrol or 2.2 litre diesel engine and six airbags (see below). Dual front airbags and head-protecting side curtains are standard equipment.
Antilock brakes and electronic stability control (ESC) are also standard. The vehicle tested by Euro NCAP has side thorax airbags for the front seats. This scoring applies to Compass variants with this feature. Without these airbags it can still be expected to achieve a 4 star rating.
The JEEP COMPASS scored 11.21 out of 16 in the offset crash test. The passenger compartment held its shape well. Protection from serious leg injury was marginal for the driver and passenger. The vehicle scored 16 out of 16 in the side impact crash test and a further two points in the pole test. Poor pedestrian protection limited the Euro NCAP rating to 2 stars but this does not apply to ANCAP ratings in 2012.

Chrysler Australia to Distribute Fiat and Alfa Romeo in Oz
As rumored recently in the auto media it has been announced by Chrysler Australia that the Australian distribution of the Italian car brands Alfa Romeo and Fiat will be distributed by the local arm of their adopted American parents from May 1st.
This brings the Australian distribution of Fiat passenger, Fiat commercial and Alfa Romeo brands in line with other countries, after Fiat gained a controlling stake in the American brand in 2009 in the wake of the Global Financial Crisis.
It is not expected that there will be any changes to dealerships in the near term, but the company says it expects to "increase the profile and awareness" of the Italian brands under the control of the factory-owned subsidiary.
The brands were previously imported by Ateco who will continue to import the Fiat Groups exotic Ferrari and Maserati brands in the short term.
There are also rumours that this move may see the demise of the Dodge brand in Australia which has seen the Dodge Caliber and Nitro range come to an end with the end of production in USA - The successfull Dodge Journey may be re branded as a Chrysler or Fiat as it is in Europe.

Congressman Want NHTSA Enquiry Into Wrangler Steering Wobble
2 Members Of US Congress have demanded the NHTSA hold an enquiry into Jeep Wrangler Steering Wobble Issue
March 19, 2012
The Honorable David Strickland, Administrator
NHTSA Headquarters
1200 New Jersey Avenue, S.E.
West Building
Washington, D.C. 20590
Dear Administrator Strickland,
We are writing to bring your attention to troubling reports that continue to surface concerning a vehicle safety risk many Jeep Wrangler owners refer to as the "Jeep Death Wobble."
In complaints circulated on the Internet, reported in the news, and filed with NHTSA's consumer complaint database, Jeep owners have described a powerful shaking of the steering wheel and front wheels after a driver hits road bumps at speed. The Jeep complaints span many models and years, with a preponderance associated with model year 2005-2010 Jeep Wranglers.
Despite the availability of Technical Service Bulletins (TSB) from the manufacturer to assist dealerships in diagnosing and repairing the problem, we understand that most Jeep owners have not been notified of the safety risk or the remedy.
To help us understand NHTSA's assessment of this issue, we request that you respond to the following questions:
(1) How many consumer complaints has NHTSA received related to "death wobble,"or underlying steering, suspension and powertrain problems in Jeep vehicles? Please provide a breakdown by model and model years.
(2) Has NHTSA's review of Early Warning Reporting (EWR) data identified concerns regarding steering, suspension and powertrain problems in model year 2005-2010 Jeep vehicles? Please explain the review and the concerns identified.
(3) Has NHTSA analyzed NASS and FARS data on rollovers or other crashes
involving model year 2005-2010 Jeep vehicles to determine whether accidents, injuries and deaths may have been triggered by a sudden loss of vehicle control because of"death wobble" or underlying steering, suspension and powertrain problems? Please explain that analysis.
(4) On NHTSA's website there are swnmaries of four Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) issued by Chrysler Group LLC that recommend a repair for Jeep Wranglers to address steering and linkage problems. Please provide a complete copy of these four TSBs as well as any others that concern steering, suspension, powertrain or other problems in Jeep vehicles that are potentially related.
(a) Does the agency agree that the repairs recommended in these TSBs can
prevent Jeep Wrangler "death wobble?" If not, what repairs does NHST A
believe are needed?
(b) How does NHTSA ensure that TSBs are disseminated and used effectively?
(c) With many Jeep vehicles affected by "death wobble" no longer under
warranty or soon subject to expiring warranties, how can NHTSA help ensure
Jeep owners have access to necessary repairs?
(d) How does NHTSA determine which TSBs are published or swnmarized on
NHTSA's website and how detailed such summaries should be?
(e) Does NHTSA require, or is it common practice for, manufacturers to maintain indexes of TSBs organized by category of model, model year and vehicle component? If so, why are such indexes not available on manufacturer or NHTSA websites so that consumers can identify TSBs on their vehicle?
(5) We are aware of at least one draft consumer satisfaction notification issued by Chrysler LLC, Customer Satisfaction Notification 134, encouraging owners of certain model year 2007-2010 Jeep Wranglers with right hand steering to visit a local dealership to replace the steering damper and mounting bracket.
(a) How does NHTSA determine whether a consumer service campaign or
consumer notification is necessary, or whether one undertaken by a company
is sufficient?
(b) There are few right hand steering vehicles in the United States.
(i) Is NHTSA aware of any customer satisfaction notifications and/or owner
notification letters addressing steering problems in Jeep Wranglers with
left hand steering or other Jeep models? If so, please provide them.
(ii) Is NHTSA aware of similar Jeep steering problems identified or
addressed by safety authorities in countries where right hand steering is
standard? Please explain.
(c) The notice indicates that repairs will be paid for or reimbursed by the
manufacturer. How does NHTSA determine whether a manufacturer is
required to reimburse owners or pay for a repair? Please provide any
guidance NHTSA offers to manufacturers.
(d) How does NHTSA ensure notification and/or reimbursement is provided
when manufacturer ownership changes, such as the transition of Jeep brand
ownership from DaimlerChrysler Motors Company LLC to Chrysler LLC, to
Chrysler Group LLC after the company emerged from bankruptcy in 2009.
Please provide any guidance NHTSA offers to manufacturers.
(6) Has NHTSA conducted an Issues Evaluation of"death wobble" in Jeep vehicles or any other review to determine whether to open an investigation? Please provide copies of any such evaluation. Does the agency believe a safety recall or consumer service campaign for affected Jeep models is warranted?
The Jeep "death wobble" is a serious safety issue that must be evaluated by NHTSA. It is also representative of the problems involving lack of transparency and access to reliable repairs that are present in other safety and defect cases. We look forward to your response to the questions
we've raised and to working with you to better assist and protect impacted vehicle owners.
Please provide the information requested in writing no later than April 2, 2012. If you have any questions regarding this request, contact Blake Hutnick with Rep. Eshoo's Office at (202) 225-8104 or Michelle Ash with the Energy and Commerce Committee Staff at (202)226-3400 .

Will Jeep Australia Bring The Wrangler Mountain?
We seem to miss out on many of the cool special edition Wranglers which all seem to be going to Europe or the US. The Arctic, The MW3 "Call of Duty" and many others have not made it here.
Isn't Australia supposed to be the largest Wrangler market outside North America?
Lets hope we see some of these cool Wranglers hit our shores. One that we hope will make it is the new "Mountain" edition.
Will Jeep Australia have the "balls" to bring this car to Australia?

WRANGLER SAHARA FOR AUSTRALIA SOON!
As we reported late last year Jeep Australia are now reported to be releasing a new "Sahara" variant in the first half of this year.
Reported in mainstream media this week - In the coming months, Jeep will add a new top-shelf Sahara trim grade to the Wrangler range, with standard features including 18-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery, six-CD audio system, body-coloured three-piece hardtop and wheel arch flares.
This new model will appeal to many wrangler buyers who like a few of life's luxuries. Although serious Wrangler enthusiasts will not go for the 18" alloys as there are not many options for AT and MT tyres for these wheels. Buyers will like the color coded body and leather seats and this should be a winner for Jeep. All Australia needs now is a Diesel CRD Rubicon model to meet popular demand.
Let's hope they can build enough for the Australian market, unlike the current supply issues with Rubicon production (shortage of transfer cases) and the Diesel engines (no supply of engines due to a factory fire) According to dealer sources there are lots of unhappy customers who have ordered Rubicons and diesel wranglers who do not know when their Jeep will be built.

Jeep Compass Fails New Euro NCAP Test
The newly re-launched Jeep Compass has only scored a low NCAP Rating of 2 Stars in Europe.
"Apparently unimpressed by a range of issues with the Jeep, Euro NCAP awarded the SUV just two stars for overall crash safety. Among a field of European and Asian compact SUVs tested by NCAP since 2009 — and under new guidelines — the Jeep scored lowest for adult protection by a significant margin, with a score of 61 per cent. The Dacia Duster, which is not sold in Australia, achieved 74 per cent in this test — the second lowest score."
The facelifted Jeep Compass, on the other hand, achieved only two stars against the 2012 criteria, with the European body stating that it "underachieved" in most areas of Euro NCAP’s assessment.
According to the results, the compact SUV showed poor protection levels for passengers, particularly in the side pole test, while in pedestrian protection, it scored a "disappointing" 23 percent.
"Compact SUVs are the most popular sport-utility segment in Europe, but the Jeep Compass did not demonstrate itself as strong contender on safety in comparison to other tested competitors in the same category," Euro NCAP said in a statement.
Lenore Fletcher, Chrysler Australia's Director of Corporate Affairs, spoke with motoring.com.au this morning about the Jeep's rating.
"First and foremost, we truly believe that... the vehicle here would be an equivalent four-star [rating] in Australia," Fletcher said, referring to "modelling" that Chrysler Australia holds for the Compass.
Asked how Chrysler would respond to the low NCAP rating and whether the company would request Euro NCAP reassess the vehicle — perhaps with all the necessary data required — Fletcher advised that it was not her place to speak on behalf of Chrysler's head office in Auburn Hills. However, it was her opinion that "there is some room for discussion there."
Since Chrysler Australia is so certain the Compass can achieve a better result in ANCAP testing than Euro NCAP, would the importer arrange with the local testing authority to test the Compass in Australia?
"It's something that we're actually looking at, at the moment," says Fletcher. "We do believe that that vehicle — particularly the way that it's specified here in Australia — the integrity of the passenger cell itself should be rated more highly than that."
But an ANCAP test of the Compass could be some way off in the future, according to Fletcher.
"It's not a quick process to implement and it's not an inexpensive process to implement."
While the crash test result has come out of the blue, and Chrysler has been caught on the hop, Fletcher says that the company is not resigned to the Compass languishing behind in the SUV safety stakes.
"We won't be leaving it at that; we will be looking further into it."

To be fair the Compass was first launched back in 2006 and was given a 4 star rating in USA Tests back then, It is due for a full replacement in 2013.

Australian Wrangler Rubicon and Diesel Production Delays
As frustrating as it already is if you have a New 2012 Rubicon or Diesel Wrangler on order and have been told your car not be arriving for many months, you can now expect a much longer wait than you have been told.
Dealers were notified today 22/2/12 of a production freeze at the Toledo Jeep facility on ALL RUBICON Wranglers due to shortages in components such as the Roc-Trac transfer case and as a consequence, only some sold vehicles will make it through without delays. Dealers have not yet been advised of which customer vehicles will not get built!
As well as this the diesels are not being built because of a shortage in the Turbo Diesel engine supply. So if you have a Rubicon or Wrangler CRD on order make sure you contact your dealer asap to find out if your Wrangler will make it to Australia mid year.
There does not appear to be any mention of this on any of the US forums so it could be effecting export versions only.
We will update you further if our sources hear any more news regarding Wrangler production delays.

Chrysler Australia Announces Headquarters Relocation
The Chrysler Australia Group (CAG), which includes the Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge brands, is delighted to announce the relocation of the company’s Australian headquarters to expansive new offices located in Port Melbourne, Victoria.
According to Clyde Campbell, managing director of CAG, the move comes hot on the heels of one of the most successful years in the group’s Australian history.
“The Chrysler group had an exceptional year in 2011, with a new, broader sales base, increasingly satisfied customers, an outstanding dealer network, impressive new products, and the recruitment of high performance staff.
“The time is right for us to make our presence felt in the Australian market, and the new Port Melbourne headquarters are designed to ratchet up our efficiency so we can better service our customer base and dealer network,” Campbell said.
The new CAG headquarters are designed as a dream destination for any automotive importer. As well as extensive office space, the new facility will include a large auditorium for conferences and meetings, and a purpose-built showroom for the group’s broad range of vehicles. In the warehouse area, a comprehensive parts and accessories operation will be housed alongside service bays complete with hoists, several training rooms, and an engineering research and development area. Employees will be keen to get to work, with the provision of free on-site parking, funky dining areas and a fully equipped – and free – gymnasium.
The Chrysler Australia Group has based its operations for the past 18 months out of the Iveco offices in South Dandenong – an arrangement for which Campbell says the company is very grateful.
“The Iveco group has been extremely accommodating during our stay, and we have established good relationships, and recognised potential synergies in our service and facilities operations.
“I really can’t thank Danilo Salvatore Matelli, the chief executive officer of Iveco, enough for his hospitality,” Campbell said.
The Chrysler Australia group will officially move into the new premises in the second quarter of 2012.

Ferrari's F1 Drivers Handed Grand Cherokee SRT8's
New 2012 Jeep® Grand Cherokee SRT8® SUVs will sport Ferrari Red for Formula 1 stars Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa
Custom-built versions of the high-performance Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 feature exclusive Rosso Corsa colored exteriors, red leather interiors and additional Ferrari looks pay tribute to the two Ferrari 'ambassadors'. Vehicles are the first two 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 models to be delivered in Europe where the introduction of the high-performance model of the Jeep flagship SUV will start in May. Both vehicles were prepared by Chrysler Group's Street and Racing Technology (SRT) design and engineering teams.
Today, two specially prepared models of the new 2012 Jeep® Grand Cherokee SRT8® - the most powerful and best handling Jeep vehicle ever - were delivered to Scuderia Ferrari Formula One drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa at the Fiorano circuit in Maranello, Italy.
The identically built vehicles were handed over to the two star drivers by Beth Paretta, Director of Marketing and Operations - SRT Brand and Motorsports, Chrysler Group LLC.
Each Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 features an aggressive exterior look with an SRT-exclusive design, which adds classic Ferrari brand styling cues and the unmistakable Rosso Corsa signature color.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is powered by the all-new 6.4-liter HEMI® V-8 engine with Fuel Saver technology that turns off four of the eight cylinders when full power is not required to ensure increased fuel economy. Thanks to the powerful HEMI V-8 powertrain delivering 468 horsepower (344 kW) and 624 N•m of torque, the SRT8 model achieves benchmark performance of 0-100 km/h in 5 seconds, has a top speed of 257 km/h and brakes from 100-0 km/h in 35 m.
"We're excited and proud to be able to share 'Ferrari-style' custom-built versions of the most powerful and best handling Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 ever with two of the most talented drivers in the world," Paretta said. "We know that both Fernando and Felipe will feel right at home in our ultimate performance SUVs that are identically built with classic Ferrari styling cues and one-of-a-kind Rosso Corsa exteriors. The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 brings a combination of Jeep's world-class capability to the road or the race track along with unparalleled luxury and refinement and advanced innovative technologies for all driving enthusiasts."
The two, uniquely customized Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 models are based on the new high-performance model of the Jeep flagship SUV set to arrive in Europe and Australia, where it will be available in Jeep dealerships starting in May.
