HEMI V8 JK WRANGLER - WILL JEEP BUILD IT?
Rumours are flying around that Jeep are seriously looking at squeezing the Hemi V8 5.7L into the Wrangler. It seems Mike Manly CEO of Jeep has had one built by American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) for his own personal testing.
Auto Blog.com are reporting that it is being driven by Mike as an 'excecutive evaluation' vehicle.
We just want them to build a Turbo Diesel Rubicon but a Hemi V8 Wrangler would appeal to plenty of people with bottomless pockets to pay for the fuel bill.
At least it looks like they are open minded about what customers are looking for.

Oz Jeep Deliveries To Be Delayed Due To Japan Paint Factory Closure
As if we haven't already got enough stock shortages in Australia we now find that some of the most popular colours in the Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge range will be restricted due to the Japan Earthquake.
The factory that is the only suplier for the special pigment Xirallic, is in the evacuation zone around the damaged Nuclear Power Plant and will be some weeks before it will be able to restart production again.
Ten paint colours are effected including the very popular Brilliant Black and Inferno Red as well as the new colours Blackberry, Deep Cherry Red and Redline which are the only colours effected that are sold in Australia. Shortages in Australia will be felt later in the year.
2011 Model JK Wrangler models can no longer be ordered in Detonator Yellow or Dark Charcoal. These colours have again been removed from available choices for the popular Wrangler model. It is not known why they have been deleted.

Jeep Gladiator
The photo shown on the Tweet portrays the Jeep Gladiator with a couple of guys standing in front. An obviously posed photo in front of the Jeep Gladiator. The Tweet has not Twittered yet but they are following various Jeep Enthusiast and 4WD Twitterers. Looks very much like a tantalising possible clue to an oncoming new Jeep. Lets hope it does!

Australian Jeep Buyers Effected By Strong World Wide Demand
Huge world wide demand for the New 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2011 Wrangler models are causing long delivery times for Australian buyers of these popular Jeep models. US Sales in Feb 2011 of Grand Cherokee were up 31% over 2010 and the recently upgraded Wrangler by 28% over last year.
Dealers are saying that further production delays in the USA are causing havoc to Australian orders for the new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2011 Jeep Wrangler models. A further restriction on the popular Quadra-Lift air suspension option on the Grand Cherokee will cause even longer waiting times for the almost sold out Grand Cherokee. There are very few un-sold 2011 Grand Cherokees' in Australia.
It is hoped that the yet to arrive Overland and CRD Turbo Diesel models will not be effected and arrive on time in June or July.

Dont Hold Back Tigers - Jeep Sponsor AFL Team Richmond Tigers
AFL team Richmond is pleased to announce that it has secured a major partnership with automotive brand Jeep, which will appear on the front of the Richmond guernsey for at least the next two years.
“Partnering with Jeep is a fantastic step forward for the Richmond Football Club, which adds to the excitement among our members and fans as we head into a new season,” CEO Brendon Gale said.
“We are thrilled and proud to be associated with such a strong and exciting brand in Jeep. There is a great fit between our organisations, the exciting journey we are on and our ambitious plans for the future.”
Celebrating it’s 70th anniversary this year, the iconic Jeep brand is arguably the most recognisable in the automotive landscape. Surging forward with award-winning recent product development and aggressive new marketing strategies, the legendary brand is set for big things this year, with the Richmond partnership being a sensational element of that progress.
“There are few clubs with the rich history of Richmond, and even fewer automotive brands with the history of Jeep” said Sam Tabart, General Manager of Marketing for parent company Chrysler Australia.“Our approach is one of passion and strength, with the mantra ‘Don’t Hold Back!’ So what better fit for Jeep than Richmond Football Club who’s positive, professional approach and membership dedication is something we are extremely excited to be a part of.”

Don't Order The Skinny Latte - Jeep Cherokee Don't Hold Back!
Jeep Australia have launched a new marketing direction for the Jeep KK Cherokee.
Appealing to the more male, macho side of buyers ego's the new campaign features slogans like "don't put the toilet seat down" and ' don't order the skinny latte' along with its 'Dont Hold Back' slogan.
Suggesting that buyers who purchase the less 'macho' soft roader' AWD types like Xtrail, Rav, Sorrento etc. are going for the whimpy option, rather than the real 4WD.
Cherokee always slows down sales rates when Jeep don't advertise it at an attractive price. The up market Limited is the more popular model and buyers will pay the extra few grand to get the extra goodies it is loaded with. It's got plenty of great gear including leather, heated seats, drivers memory, 18" alloys, auto lights and wipers and heaps of other luxury items that make it one of the best value 'Real' 4WD's around. The cheaper sport model always seems to lack enough appeal to sell well. But now at a price of just $35000 drive away it sounds like a great deal for budget conscious buyers. The Sport now includes leather steering wheel with audio controls, blue tooth for your hands free phone and reverse parking sensors but still lacks a height adjustment for the drivers seat. All Cherokees come with High and Low range 4WD with Hill descent Control, Side Curtain Air Bags and the latest Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control and Brake Assist Technology. See more at www.jeep.com.au

The Definitive 4WD Hand Book.
There is a dream, an intention. A desire. The primeval urge to explore, to leave behind, to set out and enjoy Australia, away from the teeming hordes, off the beaten path.
For many people, a 4WD vehicle is the key to fulfilling that dream, but it’s all too easy to let month after month tick by, and never really try it.
This book shows you how, step by step, and assumes no prior knowledge whatsoever. You’ll learn how your 4WD works, and how to drive it offroad responsibly and safely.
Talking Jeep Oz highly recommends this book to any 4WD owner. It covers everything from the 4WD basics through to advanced recovery and latest technological advances. It even has many photos of Jeeps in action and covers all four wheel drive systems. You can find out where to purchase the book and even find an online store at Roberts Blog.
Check it out at Robert Peppers 4WD Handbook blog.

Rubicon Express Closure Update!
The Jeep Forums are full of questions with no answers.
Motor City Muscle Cars are reporting "Sources close to the company are saying that without a capital infusion restructuring just is not an option at this point. The company has been unable to refinance or get an extension on a $1 million dollar SBA Loan (Small Business Association), and needs an additional $1 million dollars to buy product and cover operational expenses.
With the current the economic state Rubicon Express is unlikely to find the cash it needs without a change of ownership. Competitors are circling like buzzards hoping to be able to swoop down and acquire the trademark and other assets should the company enter bankruptcy. Some suitors have even looked at purchasing the loan from the bank in order to gain access to the company and avoid a bidding war. In parts because of Rubicon’s storied name and reputation, and in part because the company supplies MOPAR with Jeep suspension components."
Lets hope someone buys it and keeps it going.

Jeep Commando! Is This The Next Jeep? Fiat Sourced Heavy Duty 4x4
Rumors are flying around that this could be the next Jeep to hit the world.
Our freinds at Allpar.com are reporting that this Iveco sourced 4x4 could become a Jeep very soon. It fits well with the concept of a larger than Wrangler heavy duty vehicle that would compete with Landcruiser Troop Carrier and Defender.
Our freinds at Allpar.com are reporting that this Iveco sourced 4x4 could become a Jeep very soon. It fits well with the concept of a larger than Wrangler heavy duty vehicle that would compete with Landcruiser Troop Carrier and Defender.
"The Iveco Massif, a rugged off-road vehicle designed mainly for commercial use, has been rumored to be destined for the United States now that its Spanish builder, Santana, has shut down operations. The vehicle, based on the Iveco Daily van (not the Land Rover Defender, as some have claimed) shares key components with the Daily 4×4, including its frame; it is available in body styles including a pickup and seven-passenger wagon. " more ... Allpar.comThoughts are it would replace a gap in the market left by the Hummer and also appeal to markets like Africa and Australia for rugged terrain use. Production Jeeps would need to have a more distinctive Jeep look than the example from Allpars Jack Ratchet who usually gets his future models very close to the look of real production models.

Replacement For KK Cherokee (Liberty) Could Be 2012
The KK Cherokee (Liberty in US) is long over due for a re fresh especially with all the other Jeep models getting make overs recently. Word is that Chrysler have made a Securities and Exchange Commission filing that shows that the KK will have a major upgrade in 2012. It is uncertain if it will be refreshed or if Chrysler is planning a more comprehensive makeover, the model is due for a complete replacement in Chryslers 5 Year business plan and the 2011 upgrades were very minor compared to those received by the other Jeep models.
In Australia the Cherokee has been a strong seller over the years but the KK has been a dissapointment with traditional Cherokee buyers as its perceived to be too soft as a serious off roader and not refined enough as a soft roader. Its stuck in a 4WD limbo due to designers trying to appeal to the soft SUV market at the expense of the traditional Cherokee buyer needs. The luggage area is too small for most buyers needs and simple things like the accelerator being positioned too low makes it impossible for shorter drivers to reach the pedals. The low ground clearance is compensated for with an excellent traction control system and now that the Mopar 2" Lift Suspension package is on the market, the KK Cherokee becomes a more balanced vehicle for the more difficult trails. Lets hope the new 2012 KK Cherokee does not leave its tradditional 4WD roots behind.

Diesel Wrangler For US Looking More Likely
Allpar.com are reporting that Chrysler has been posting numerous jobs on careerbuilder.com for diesel engineers in the areas of application integration and development.
While this may be for products used in Europe (and Australia ed.), because those already have diesel options from VM, which is half-owned by Fiat Powertrain, it seems likely that these positions are for adapting diesel engines to vehicles sold in the United States.
As European emissions standards come closer to American standards, the economics of adapting VM and Fiat diesels to American products may be improving. Numerous rumors of diesel-powered Wranglers for the United States and Canada have been making the rounds.
Many Jeep enthusiasts have criticized the use of the 3.8 liter V6 in the current Wrangler; it is set to be replaced in the 2012 model year by the Pentastar V6. Even before the 4-liter straight six was swapped out, however, the Jeep community was demanding a diesel, which has strong torque off the line and can greatly reduce fuel usage as well.
The bonus for Australia here is that if they build a US Diesel Wrangler it will almost certainly go into the Rubicon, that would then mean that we should finally get a Diesel Rubicon. Fingers Crossed!

Jeep Grand Wagoneer - Are These The Most Beautiful Jeeps Ever?
I know this is a US website but if you are a genuine Jeep enthusiast you must check out the Jeeps that this guy rebuilds. The end product is better than what came out of the Jeep factory and are impeccably restored from the ground up. He specialises in 1991 FSJ Grand Wagoneers complete with the 360 V8 and the Woody side panels. A true Jeep Classic these cars were sold in Australia until the late 1980's. The final build 1991 models were regarded as the best as the model was fased out and discontinued.
Jeep are to re-introduce the Grand Wagoneer name plate when a 7 seat Grand Cherokee goes into production some time in 2012.
