Jeep Cherokee (Liberty) Replacement To Be Based On 2WD Platform

Reports from the US are suggesting the next generation Cherokee/Liberty replacement due in 2014 is said to be based on a 2WD platform and will only offer AWD as an option. It will no longer be a trail rated all terrain vehicle like the current KK model but will go "soft" in an attempt to appeal to mainstream SUV/Crossover buyers who normally buy a Rav4 or Xtrail etc. -

Car and Driver Blog sources are saying "consider the next Liberty to be Jeep’s take on the Dodge Journey, even if they don’t actually share anything excepting corporate powertrains.".
Traditional hard core Jeepers may cringe but most are flocking to the hugely successfull 4 door Jeep Wrangler anyway which has become the modern day equivelent of the older XJ Cherokee which finished production 10 years ago.

Chrysler has only just announced a huge investment in the Toledo Jeep Plant to produce the new model in larger volume for both US and World markets.

Expect to see the next generation Jeep Cherokee/Liberty replacement reach Australian shores towards the end of 2014.
